Overview
Phonetic pronunciation tells the automated voice how to say a location or provider name more naturally in phone call reminders. It does not affect how the name appears in text or email reminders — those use the Friendly Name instead. If the Phonetic Name field is left blank, the system falls back to the regular name.
Before you begin
- Access to Config > Reminders > Locations and/or Config > Reminders > Resources.
Update the phonetic name for a location
- Go to Config > Operational Setup > Locations.
- Find the location you want to update.
- Click Edit.
- Open the Location Details tab.
- Find the Phonetic Name field.
- Enter the pronunciation the call system should use. (Example: instead of
OU Health, enter a version that's easier for the voice system to read correctly.)
- Click Save.
Update the phonetic name for a provider or resource
- Go to Config > Operational Setup >Resources.
- Find the provider or resource you want to update.
- Click Edit.
- Open the Reminder Information tab.
- Find the Phonetic Name field.
- Enter the pronunciation you want the automated call to use. (Example: spell
Dr. Nguyen in a way that helps the system pronounce it correctly.)
- Click Save.
Best practice
Spell the name the way you'd want a voice assistant to say it. After saving, use the Test Panel to place a sample call and confirm the pronunciation sounds right.
Troubleshooting
- If the call says the name wrong even after updating, then confirm you edited the Phonetic Name field (not the Friendly Name) and saved. A blank Phonetic Name falls back to the regular name.
- If text or email reminders show an unexpected name, then note those use the Friendly Name, not the phonetic one — updating phonetics won't change them.
